Tessera is a code-first authoring framework rather than a library you bolt onto an existing course. A project is a pnpm workspace holding one or more courses; pages are Svelte components, quizzes are built against a hooks API (`useQuestion`, `useQuiz`, `useCompletion`, `usePersistence`), and one command packages the result for a target standard.

The reason it belongs in this directory is the export matrix, and it holds up in the source. The exporter emits SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 4th Edition manifests, a cmi5 course structure, an xAPI 1.0.3 bundle or a plain static site, and the repository carries conformance-style tests for the 1.2 and 2004 runtime adapters rather than only a happy-path build test. The xAPI version is deliberately pinned to 1.0.3 with the reasoning written down in the code — a level of care that is unusual at this size.

Who it suits: a team that already works in git and wants a course to be reviewable, diffable and rebuildable for several LMSs from one source. Who it does not: anyone expecting a WYSIWYG editor, a template gallery, or a migration path from an existing authoring tool. Node 24 is a hard requirement.

Maintenance state matters here. The repository was created in May 2026, has a single maintainer and a handful of stars. The engineering is more disciplined than the star count suggests, but a course you cannot rebuild is a course you cannot fix — budget for reading the framework yourself if you ship on it.
