CourseCode is a code-first authoring framework: a course is a directory of JavaScript slide files, a config file and a theme stylesheet, previewed locally and packaged from the command line. It targets the developer or technical instructional designer who would rather diff a course than click through a proprietary editor, and it leans hard into AI-assisted authoring via a bundled MCP server.

The standards coverage is the unusual part. Very few tools of any size emit SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 4th Edition, cmi5 and an LTI 1.3 tool configuration from one source, and the implementations are separate, readable drivers rather than a single fudge. The LTI driver in particular refuses to do browser-side JWT handling, which is the correct decision and one that plenty of larger products get wrong.

The caution is its age and size. First commit February 2026, version 0.1.61, two stars, one author. It is not a project you would put a multi-year content programme on without a plan for maintaining a fork. It is a strong candidate for a pilot, for a team already comfortable in a terminal, or as a reference implementation of multi-standard packaging.

Note also that Desktop and Cloud are paid products from the same author. The framework does not require them, but that is where the commercial incentive sits.
